Michael Barkann speaks with Conwell-Egan Students

Yesterday we welcomed Michael and Ellen Barkann to CEC as part of the guest-speaker lineup for the 2018-2019 school year.

Michael, currently of NBC sports Philadelphia, has worked in journalism and broadcasting in the Philadelphia region for the past 20 years. He and his wife Ellen started the Barkann Family Healing Hearts Foundation in the beginning of 2013. Natives of the area, the foundation seeks to help heal the hearts of families across the Delaware Valley whose hearts have been broken by the sudden illness or sudden loss of life of a loved one. Many notable events include their yearly golf outing in May and their Holiday Hearts program - which raises thousands of dollars along with other goods for families during Christmas season. This year, CEC hosted their gift stuffing event in the cafeteria and sent students to the NovaCare complex to help deliver them to the families.

Their Executive Director, Michael Barnes, is a Conwell-Egan graduate who helped bring these communities together. Together, they were excited to speak to the student body, share their story, and show us why they were motivated, and are continuously motivated, to help those in need!
