CEC Welcomes Jeff Manto as Head Baseball Coach

FAIRLESS HILLS, PA (JULY 28, 2022) – Conwell-Egan Catholic High School (CEC) is proud to announce that Jeff Manto has accepted an offer to become Head Coach of its Baseball team.

Manto is currently the manager of the Trenton Thunder of the MLB Draft League. Manto played Major League Baseball for the Cleveland Indians, Philadelphia Phillies, Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, Seattle Mariners, Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees, and Colorado Rockies. He also played in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) for the Yomiuri Giants.

Born and raised in Bristol (PA), Manto attended Temple University where he was a member of two Atlantic 10 Championship teams. Inducted into the Temple University Hall of Fame in 2000, Manto was drafted in the 35th round of the 1982 Major League Baseball Draft by the New York Yankees as a RH Pitcher, but opted not to sign with them. Three years later, he entered again into the draft where he was drafted in the 14th round of the 1985 Major League Baseball Draft by the California Angels and signed that same year. He played 16 years and retired after the 2000 season. During that span, Manto was part of three World Series teams: the 1993 Philadelphia Phillies, the 1997 Cleveland Indians, and the 1999 New York Yankees.

After his playing career ended, Manto worked as a hitting coach, as well as manager, for the Philadelphia Phillies’ Lakewood BlueClaws. He was hired as the Pittsburgh Pirates Hitting Coordinator in 2003, and then was named the Pittsburgh Pirates hitting coach in November 2005. In 2011, Manto was named hitting coach for the Chicago White Sox. In 2021, Manto was announced as the manager of the Trenton Thunder for the inaugural season of the MLB Draft League.

“We are thrilled to have Jeff join the CEC family. His expertise and knowledge of the game will have a profound impact on the baseball program at CEC,” said CEC Athletic Director Patrick Donlen. “His proven track record of success along with his personal connection to the community make him a special fit for this position,” added Donlen.

Manto is a member of nine Halls of Fame: Bristol High School HOF, Bucks County HOF, Temple University HOF, Pennsylvania Sports HOF, Buffalo Bison HOF, Rochester Red Wings HOF, Greater Buffalo HOF, International League HOF, and Trenton Baseball HOF. His number 30 is also retired for the Buffalo Bisons.

“I’m so grateful for the opportunity to coach at CEC. I look forward to working together with our student-athletes, administration, faculty, alumni, and all of the CEC family to bring high quality baseball to the field. CEC has a clear vision for sustained success and I'm looking forward to being a part of it,” said Manto.

Manto is the Core Team Leader for St. Mark’s “That Man is You!” parish men’s group and currently resides in Bristol, PA with his wife and three children.
