Below you will find the summer Math & ELA assignments for the 2026-27 school year.

ELA

Summer Reading Assignments (Summer 2026)
Students: please complete your summer reading assignment based on the instructions for your upcoming course. You'll be tested on your chosen book(s) on the first day of school. No exceptions.

Parents: these selections offer engaging narratives and themes for discussion. Please review the books based on your child's needs, as reading levels may differ.

ELA I
*Students enrolled in Academic ELA I and College Prep ELA I must read one book from the list below
*Students enrolled in Honors ELA I must read two books from the list below

  • Night by Elie Wiesel
  • Wonder by RJ Palacio
  • The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams

ELA II
*Students enrolled in College Prep ELA II must read one book from the list below
*Students enrolled in Honors ELA II must read two books from the list below

  • Lord of the Flies by William Golding
  • Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
  • Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

ELA III
*Students enrolled in College Prep ELA III must read one book from the list below
*Students enrolled in Honors ELA III must read two books from the list below

  • The Help by Kathryn Stockett
  • Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand
  • Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

AP LANGUAGE & COMPOSITION: 
Read the following two texts:

  • Just Mercy (Adopted for Young Adults) by Bryan Stevenson
  • Maus (the graphic novel) by Art Spiegelman

ELA IV
*Students enrolled in College Prep ELA IV must read one book from the list below
*Students enrolled in Honors ELA IV must read two books from the list below

  • The Nightingale: A Novel by Kristen Hannah
  • The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson
  • The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead

AP LITERATURE & COMPOSITION:
Read both of the following texts:

  • A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
  • Fences by August Wilson
Strongly consider reading, though not required:
  • How to Read Literature Like a Professor: A Lively and Entertaining Guide to Reading Between the Lines by Thomas C. Forester
